Thanks to the inspiration of @karenmolonely of Sydney and my friend Helen Blunden of Melbourne I’ve taken up the challenge of recording a short (under 3 min) video each day and contributing to the L and D (Learning and Development) global community. I am cross posting on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube (collected in a Playlist) and my theme is (shock horror!)
Bet you didn’t see that coming. What I am trying to do is keep it raw, going with whatever I shoot in one take. I’m also trying to incorporate a visual in each episode and tap into metaphor a bit. Some topics are influenced by my previous work in this field, but others are totally spontaneous, relating to something going on at present.
As for the tech, I am experimenting with, which can result, I’ve discovered, in some pretty hilarious voice recognition snafus with the subtitles. But I’m just going with it. I tend not to like unpolished vids – especially with talking heads- but I must admit I’m having fun doing these and learning a lot from others’ posts.

I love this Amy. It reminds me of microcasts. The rawness and reflective nature. I am also reminded of George Couros’ idea of #EDUin30 based on Twitter’s constraint of 30 seconds.
Another thing you could do is add your videos to Huffduffer using Ryan Barrett’s bookmarklet for video. This would allow you to create a quasi-podcast from your vlogs, although it would be temporary as Barrett only holds the audio stripped from YouTube for 30 days. It is a start though.

thanks, Aaron! Great ideas! I’m finding it difficult to do these as I get really nervous tbh. Hopefully the practice might make me better.
I know what you mean. That was part of my intent with microcasts, to improve on my spontaneity, rather than be so scripted.
