I wasn’t really planning to do the 6 word story exercise, but while making breakfast it came to me:
(for some this may seem controversial, but I’m a 6 year breast cancer survivor. Unfortunately, my mom lost her battle with colon cancer 2 years ago. So I guess this story could be read 2 ways – from the first diagnosis shock to the defeated sighs of the last days. And there are many nuances to the word “had”)
I was overwhelmed by the lovely, heartfelt responses I received both on Twitter and G+
On a lighter note, I decided to try the “6 Songs of Me” project from @guardianmusic.
You just have to go with your gut feeling on this one…overthinking won’t be fun. I was a tad disappointed to see that Spotify did not offer New Order’s ’94 remix of “Bizarre Love Triangle” but oh well, we can’t all be perfect. Immediately after I submitted I regretted my choices. Where was the Blondie? The Abba!? the Violent Femmes?
I think it would be fun to expand this project – perhaps make a Vuvox Collage or even a Thinglink annotated image. If one had images/ memories combined with the song, and perhaps a little text describing the reasoning, it would be so much richer.

This one really hit home. My mother was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in October and began chemo therapy a month ago. She’s doing pretty well, but it will be a long few months.
Love this, Amy! My mother began chemo treatment for breast cancer last month, and your story really inspired me! Thank you for your story! http://jamespatrickjensen.com/2013/02/06/231/
Thanks for your reply and reblog, James. I know it’s a difficult topic for many, but breast cancer in particular affects 1 in 8 women or something like that. Chemo is no doubt one of the most difficult things anyone will have to do. It really helps having loving family and friends. Some of my best experiences were getting foot massages and smelling rosemary or pouches of cloves and cinnamon (took the medicinal smell away, which triggered anxiety in me). Hang in there.

WOW! I really look up to you for your courage and determination. You’re a living epitome of resilience. I don’t know why I haven’t been visiting your blog before.
You’re doing a great job.
Amy, I think I discovered your music videos around the time I was recovering from breast cancer surgery, myself. And then watched your TED Talks video, and realized that we both cope through distraction, humor, imagination, and by drawing strength from good friends who will let us. Cancer? It picked the wrong women to mess with. I’m so sorry for your loss; I’ve lost too many family and friends to cancer, myself.
Your friend and fan, Pete Laberge, says to say hello. 😉
